I have done a couple of leather hat patches for my son. He collects hats and is loving being able to make whatever he wants. I need to design a logo type thing for my leather though. I have also made a couple of notebook covers which could use some engraving. Turns out I am much better at...
I cut out a prototype sheath I have been working on lately. I like not having a loop for the belt and instead having slots. I used the laser to cut the parts out and it went together super quick. You can see the welt I drew out first. Then it goes on from there. I use an old steel saw blade...
Mine will frame everything with the laser on a low setting so you can see exactly where the etching will be. When I get a little better with it I may have to try that.
That is pretty much how the dies on my press attach. I would not bother building anything to hold the dies. Just do what I did and buy a cheap rechargeable ratchet from Home Depot. Use it to loosen the bolts which hold the die on. If your dies are slotted they will slide out and you slide...
Ok first of all, are you even old enough to be speaking of shoulder issues. For some reason I thought you were young. Like 30’s young? Second, that is a sick contraption you have built there. I love it. I so wanted to build something like that but I do not trust my welds enough. Well done!
Now for leather washers. I REALLY HATE wasting leather so I save my scraps. I drew out an oval on lightburn and copied it so I had three identical washers. Took a piece of scrap and lined it up then cut. Took about four minutes but I have three perfect washers. You could cut as many as you...
About my fourth attempt this one is on a fully heat treated AEB-L knife I am working on. Just as deep as the 1080 etch and I believe the 150mm/min 100% power two passes setting is about right. At those settings it took two minutes and sixteen seconds to etch the knife. I spend more than that...
Second test I did 150 mm/min 100 power two passes. I can feel it went a little deeper. The etches are not what I would call deep but they are recessed into the steel surface. I would make sure I etched with this laser after all of my hand sanding was done. It would survive a little sanding...
First steel test. 1080 machine sanded to 400 grit no chemicals. 100% power 200 mm/ min two passes. I can feel it etched into the steel with my thumbnail.
I wanted to see if you guys are interested in me posting some knife (making) specific testing on the Laser cutter I recently acquired. It is a 10W diode laser (Ortur Laser Master 3) and I familiar enough with its operation now to do some pretty in depth testing related to knife stuff. I will...
I have not seen a press/power hammer combo before. I did see a press/roller mill combo at Blade show a couple of years ago but I have not seen it since. I like the idea and admittingly I did not watch the entire video, I just watched the machine work. Great idea (space saving) but there is a...
My equation is .125 and thinner I profile, drill holes, HT then grind. Thicker than .125 I normally do some rough grinding prior to HT. I really prefer to do my grinding post HT when I can no matter what steel I am using. I just like it better.
