    Sumthin new (to me, anyway)

It became popular (again) in guitars about ten years back. I have several guitars with baked necks and one with a baked pine body. Does it do anything? Sells guitars… :)

WIP: Full Featured 2x72 for under $1500?!? Housemade Gen 4 Revolution Kit Build

Curiously, when I changed devices from my Macbook to my iPad, I now see the same thing you do, Ken. About a third of the images don’t show.

@KenH I see all the photos and links okay as of the time of this post (18:14 CDT).

    Peter Wright Anvil

Are Peter Wright hundredweight notations "stone" markings based on 112lbs=1hundredweight or the North American 100lb=1hundredweight? This has always been confusing to me. I read that anvil as 112+(1/4x112)+15= 155 pounds.

Thanks so much!! Edited to add: subscribed your links. In addition I had TimWelds and Weld.com subscribed on YT. I also have two smallish primers on the subject and a pair of DVDs on Basic and Advanced TIG with Ron Covell. It's all about remembering all the stuff at once and practice...

Thanks so much for taking the time to type all that up. I appreciate it! Learning is slow going right now as I get hot too quickly out in the garage and that's not good thing with me. I am seeing small improvements, so that's exciting. The rest is reading, getting tips, and truning the practice...

Nice welder! Any troubles with it at all, or tips? I just got a Primeweld225x. So far so good. Nice work. Great build thread! Thanks for sharing.

    Peter Wright Anvil

That's a pretty ballsy ask at $8/pound, especially with those edges dinged up as they are. The fullering tool is pretty cool. Do you happen to remember how the hundredweight was marked? My Peter Wright has 108 on it, or 120 lbs.

    RIP "Pop"

I read on another forum that James Poplin has passed. RIP, Pop, and thank you for your years of service to the knife making community.

    Gas forge

I agree. I had a vertical forge in a 30lb propane tank. The bottom was basically a mix of flux and kitty litter.

    Gas forge

I missed that last line, too. Sorry. I was under the misimpression that the castable stuff held up to flux great. Or, perhaps, there are different castable refractories? Either way, I would be hesitant to consign myself to no-flux forge welding only. Again, sorry I missed that.

    Gas forge

Atlas forges are cast refractory, so the floor will be hard, but not flat. If flat is a consideration, toss a piece of floor tile on the bottom while welding. I like the looks and description of their blown Graham forge. Hope you find exactly what you're looking for!

    Gas forge

I know this isn't answering your question, but Atlas Forges get high regard on another forum I read. I like how their burners are angled. I prefer a blown burner, personally, but their aspirated burners seem to get good praise. I have zero experience with Atlas products.

Does your TIG unit do stick? PS, if you can afford a MIG that will use gas, do it. I hated fluxcore. JMO.

    I am an idiot!

I'll get looked at askance for the old school thoughts but tapered holes and annealed pins help avoid that a bit. That said, it's straight grain wood and too close to the end, like @opaul said. Live and learn. A good portion of making knives is error correction. Don't agonize, just look at is...

Nice looking machine, Eric. I look forward to watching the progress. I envy the welding. I am on about day 5 of my TIG experience. So far it has proven a great opportunity to learn to regrind 'trodes. :)
