This was DET annealed, 1465 for 7 minutes, into P50, then 350 2x2 hours. I think it was supposed to be 62 if I remember right. I don’t have a Rockwell tester so I couldn’t verify for sure. I think it performs great though.

I work in construction and two years ago I was working on a lab remodel. Countertops were all old rag Micarta. I tried to convince them they needed new countertops (unsuccessfully)…….I was drooling lol. It was probably 100k worth of handle materials. The knife gods have smiled on you my friend!

You should buy a cheap tile saw for cutting them up. My dad was a flooring installer, I always used his old tile saw for cutting up agates. I think you can get a water cooled one from Home Cheapo for like a couple hundred bucks.

It looks like some really old brown paper maybe. I cut everything into blocks. I can always make blocks into scales, but not scales into blocks. Looks like an awesome haul! Use to be able to find old Micarta everywhere. I bought mountains of it in 2’ square blocks 2” thick about 30 years ago...

Talc is a good thing! You CAN purge your whole HT kiln if you want to go that route. I had one on mine that I just made from pipe fittings and drilled a hole into the top of my HT oven. I guess it’s hard on the elements. I don’t do lots of stainless so I took it off and just use pouches again...

I have seen a YouTube video of Bob Dozier doing exactly that! It didn’t look like he was really “adding length” so much as “adding a threaded portion”. I don’t see why it shouldn’t work.
