    I hate making sheaths!

A sheath by a well know sheath maker would add value to the blade vs a sheaths I made :(

    Integral grinding fixture for KMG.

From the photo it looks like a normal small wheel attachment using a 1/2" (3/8"?) wheel with a platen added work do the job nicely. Rather than sell a complete dedicated grinder it seems an attachment would be fairly easy to rig up for market. OR, using a cheap 1 hp 1725 rpm 1ph motor with a...

WIP Survival Knife for My Son-In-Law

    I don't think the saw teeth look all that bad, just a bit more cleanup. To me they look really aggressive and wicked - isn't that what a knife like that is designed to do - "looks" and not so much "functional"? {grinning}

WIP Survival Knife for My Son-In-Law

I have no doubt you're up to the challenge - your work in the past tells me this is gonna be good.

WIP Survival Knife for My Son-In-Law

Bummer - that's why we got rid of our hens. Even once they made it to full grown too many got caught by hawks and other things that love to eat hens. Even had a red fox chase the hens right up to the house once trying to get a hen. The fox actually caught a hen, but she got away and had a...

WIP Survival Knife for My Son-In-Law

I was trying to say your WIP will be an interesting thread and I'm looking forward to rest of the WIP - you always do a good job with those. Not sure I wish to be involved in trying to build that "beast" :) I meant nothing but complimentary words for you.

WIP Survival Knife for My Son-In-Law

Agreed - looks like an interesting build. Hmmm, not as sure about that. Let's see what other folks say about that idea.

Anyone Ever Tried to Make One of These?

Tell him for the $34 the knife costs new the cost to custom build is too much. Here's the gold version on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EO2JX6G/?th=1 Tell him this is the best blade since it has a "gold titanium-coated tanto blade" :)

    Introducing my youngest son.

I can't imagine why it would be against the rules, Just go thru the signing up process and if there's no question about age, then I'd expect it to be good. Of course that's Boss's call. Welcome Jeremy - Looking forward to your posts and photos of some of your work

    Yet another grinder thread ....

Some folks like the ratchet tension, other folks prefer a spring (gas, etc). I use spring, but did try a fixed tension (like ratchet) and while it was "ok", I did go back to spring. From my perspective ratchet vs spring isn't a deal breaker. I sorta tend to lean toward the Reeder, one of the...

    I need some hydraulic advice/info

You gonna have fun building a press. With your 5" cylinder you'll have around 25 ton at a normal 2500 psi. Here's a site to calculate tonnage: https://www.baumhydraulics.com/images/calculators/cyl_calc.htm You'd like around 3"/sec travel speed...

    Stand

Turn the table 180° so the blade slot is to the front - that allows the blade to be changed with table in place. When I first mounted my portaband to table I did the same as you, put the slot to back requiring table to be removed for blade change. that HF stand really does look slick, when my...

    Stand

I got the Rikon 10-326 14" bandsaw with the 10-326 DVR variable speed option. I don't see it available now - maybe discontinued? A review here: https://www.woodworkersjournal.com/rikon-14-in-smart-band-saw/

    Stand

That is such a slick stand I'd almost purchase one myself and don't really need it with my 4X6 saw, and the 14" metal/wood bandsaw.

AEB-L - When do you remove it from foil?

I think most folks (like myself) remove blade from SS packet after plate quench. I tend to remove from oven, 1. then to plate quench, 2. After plate quench remove foil & clamp to a bar, 3. into freezer (-5°F) for a few minutes, 4. then into LN still clamped to bar. After a period of...

    hand forged vs. production

The knives in the link you gave under "hand forged knives" are dirt cheap compared to known truly forged blades. A set of "4-piece set, chef’s knife, Santoku knife, boning knife, peel knife" for $250, and that's with feather Damascus over a San Mai type core it looks like. I didn't find any...
