    HT oven build!

$200? WOW - you did good... not only a good price, but a very nice looking oven. I like the idea of using a pottery kiln as a vertical HT oven. I've got an 18" EvenHeat and it's takes a LONG time to heat to 1975°F - seems like it's a tad over 2 hrs?

    Stencils

Not a clue as to cost - best thing is to call the vendor you're interested in, perhaps send them your art work so they can see it. I've never had anybody do the stencils for me. I've always done them myself.

    Stencils

I think Patrica might be the lady at IMG - she's always been super nice and helpful for me back when I made my stencils.

    Whats going on?

I'm so sorry to hear about that Sean - It's good you've got a good support group there. Hang in there my friend. I know exactly what you mean about knowing some regulars on a forum so well. Their personally (the "real" person) tends to show thru after a few yrs of posting and reading.

I'm guilty of looking to see what to read, but seldom posting. We all need to do a better job to keep the forum active. Great forum and good folks.

    Looking for Grinder Recommendations

Bully, it's good to see you keeping active with your thread. One of my pet grips are folks who start/post a thread, then never come back to comment. Perhaps they do come back and read responses, but it makes me feel like we're talking to ourselves when they never post again. You're doing...

    Looking for Grinder Recommendations

Have you looked at the Reeder grinder? Decent price for a barebones grinder, then add your own motor and Chinese VFD drive for a decently priced package. The Reeder is one of the very "top of line" grinders at less than some of the other packages. If you wish a DIY grinder than USA...

    I bought a laser engraver/cutter

That LP5 is an impressive 20 watt fiber laser from the small amount of reading I did. Those blades look really good - that's with the fiber? Did I read it's got a diode laser also? Did you use the diode for the leather? You gonna LOVE it.

What to do when the number of knives exceeds quench capacity?

10 to 15 minutes shouldn't be a problem as HT'ing issues are more a matter of temperature rather than time. Larrin recommends holding AEB-L for 15 minutes. 1975°F if using Dry Ice or LN. 1950°F if using -5°F freezer, 1925°F if using room temperature. Here's Dr Larrin's article for HT'ing...

    Hand filed

hand files? Are you talking for putting decorative file work on the blade? Or, for general filing? Yes, a pyrometer would be great for checking temps in the forge, but NOT the handheld IR type. They just don't work when the object starts glowing. You need a TC and digital meter for reading...

Help Me ID this Automatic with a squirrel?

Just another time when reviving an old thread was a good thing.

Help Me ID this Automatic with a squirrel?

It the OP is stilll around I'll bet he's happy you revived the old thread. Some forums don't like posting to old threads, but this group seems to have an acceptance. I personally feel sometimes a thread is worth reviving.

    Hunting Knife Supplier Question

There are lots of makers on this site with good decent prices on the type of knife you describe. Look thru the "for sale" forum. https://knifedogs.com/forums/knives-for-sale-fixed-blades.111/

    New to the shop

As Gene says, a good knifemaker can get by without a Hardness Tester, but they sure are nice. I've fully enjoyed the HR-150 Clone I have.
