    DIY file guide?

I should perhaps clarify, that often when I'm using a file guide, it's on my belt or disc grinder, so the carbide is pretty necessary. I've also used it (big surprise coming) for filing... ;) I've used both "safe" files and regular, so the carbide does help a lot. BTW... a slightly cheaper...

    Stencil Printer?

First I've heard of this stencil tape. I may have to give it a shot as well! Based on this video, it looks promising: Lately, I've been trying a few different steels that I don't have stencils for (I like to etch the steel type on my knives) as well as a new logo or two, and this would be...

    DIY file guide?

I used to think that $100+ for a carbide file was a lot, until I made one. I think I had nearly $50 in materials before I even started cutting and drilling. Carbide isn't cheap. Then there's the time and skill it takes to put together and make sure everything lines up. I'm not sure why you...

    Enco surface grinder

It wasn't terribly difficult. Here's a video I shot giving an overview of what I initially did: IIRC, it was about $200 for the contact wheel, maybe $40ish for the tracking wheel, and maybe $40 for the rest of the odds and ends if you don't already have some scrap laying around. I've since...

    Enco surface grinder

I have a 1hp 3phase surface grinder and use the same 2hp VFD that I run my knee mill with. I just make sure that it's running at least 60hz. I've also run it a little faster at times, though I wouldn't overspeed it like that with a stone wheel (mine is converted to belts). Just understand that...

    KMG Grinder Direct Drive!

Funny story. My hands and fingers had all kinds of cuts and lacerations from a few days of grinding knives and getting bit by the edge of the belt more than anything. My wife saw my hands when I came in one night, and asked what in the world was going on. I said "I've been grindin' knives baby!"...

What goes with your knife package?

Pretty much anything I ship lately gets a sticker and a business card.

Stamping , where does the metal go?

Or, just put a 36 grit belt on your grinder and don't stop until the pile of dust below you're grinder weighs around one firearm.

It's not a kilt, it's a 360 degree apron! ;) In all seriousness, I've never worn one, nor do I have much of a desire at this point in my life. That said, I won't disparage those who do, nor do I really care what their reasons are. Maybe it's a cultural thing, maybe they're being "tacti-cool"...

    Slipjoints with Craig Brewer

Not sure how many are aware, but Chris Crawford just released a pretty decent number of knife making vids to his website, inlcluding a couple by @Craig Brewer. I just downloaded the single blade slipjoint vid "Slipjoints with Craig Brewer", and watched it through for the first time. Talk about...

Tom Lipton showed a little bit of the process on his channel a while back. Fascinating stuff for sure.

    Headband Magnifier Recommendation?

I have those same magnifiers and really like them. There’s a fair amount of adjustability built in too, which is nice. There’s another brand similar to that one that allows you to double stack the magnifiers as well, but they’re about twice the price if I recall.

    Etcher Build

My homemade etcher is dual voltage 12/24 volts at about 1 amp IIRC. I rarely need more than 12 volts.

    Substitute for a Rotary Platen?`

Well, that's certainly thinking outside the box. I might have to try that! That said, I do have a couple of rotary style platens (one traditional, and one with a larger rubber belt and a flat platen) and the rubber belt does add to it's functionality as Owl said. On the other hand, you've...
