I know. And I am saying that it may not matter.

a good example of what NOT to buy

The time to find deals was like 2010 when you could feed off of the carcasses of failed businesses. ;)

Stress relief for 15N20 - will it help with warping issues?

Is there any real need to leave it overnight? I just do 1220 for 2 hours in foil.

    Braided fishing line handle wrap

I think that you can get up to 1000 lb test and the braid is flexible and not still unlike the big mono or polycarbonate leader line. It is probaly a lot thinner at 500 lbs than paracord.

    Braided fishing line handle wrap

Obviously, many people have used paracord for both permanent handle wrap and temprrary wrap that can be used as emergency "cordage." Doe sanyone know of knives that have been wrapped in say 500 lb Spectra braided fishing line?

    How Much Polishing is Enough?

I don't even use 36 grit for blade grinding anymore. Don't need to with the high tech ceramic belts we have now. I will use cheaper 36 grit on wood, but eve then, you chase those scratches. I use a cabinet maker's rasp as some point.

    Garbage steel

I am a big fan of Rick Marchand's work. I like James Helm's stuff too. But I cant really pull that off at this point. My first attempt at a "forged finish" knife was actually a W2 chopper done kinda sorta in the style of Jimmy Fikes. I didn't blot the cord handle enough so you could see shiny...

    Garbage steel

I actually forged three knives a couple of years back that had some hammer texture on the flats and ricasso. This was about the same time as I was making a number of stock remval kitchen knives from AEB-L EVIL STAINLESS STEEL so I was lookng to commit a multitude of sins. The flats were very...

    Garbage steel

What's really funny is when people take stock removal knoves and hit them with a ball peen hammer or some kind of die to give them a "forge finish" It's even funnier when they jsut leave the mill scale on the flats. i have seen knife business with "forge" in their name and nothng but stock...

This is the blade that I was talking about. See how it opens up a bit toward the edge?

    Garbage steel

I forge in great part because it is fun and also, I don't feel like grinding away half or more of my 1/4 inch stock if I need to make a lightweight knife. Don't tell anyone, but I have done a bit of straight stock removal with AEB-L and 3V. Shhhhhh. ;) Obviously, I forge my damascus, But, in a...

    Garbage steel

So did we come up with those reasons after the fact? the use of iron as oppsed to lower carbon stell like in nihonto woudl lead me to believe that it was done to save money and material. Much like the Europeans did. What is different is that the Japanese process was not fully replaced. But...

    Garbage steel

According to people in the west, a mono steel blade is easier to construct. According to traditional Japanese makers, a “on Yaki“ mono steel blade is much more difficult to construct than a forge, welded san mai, and is the demonstration of the skill of a master knife maker. I have an unpopular...

    Garbage steel

So once you "pack the edge" of the blade with your hair dryer blown pit forge and railroad anvil, all of those micro-cracks in that rusty old spring from the junk yard should work themselves, out, right? :D

    Garbage steel

The only thing that I can figure is that people think that the "cu mai" stuff is purty. Some make a regular business out of touting USED steel as somehow superior, but superior in ways that have nothing to do with performance. So called "upcycled" materials. Like I said, almost all high carbon...
