    Opinions on knife.

4.7 (12cm) is the legal limit in Germany and 4 inches the limit for concealed carry in New York City. for a fixed blade, believe it or not. Still lots of laws to keep up with.

What I would think about making in the future would be bigger. This blade is 3.75 x 1 and I would probably want to upsize to 4.5 x 1.25. Proportions would be a little different as I would not incres the width of the handle at the "neck" by the full 1/4. So the "gaurd" would look a little longer...

Those Yellow Bellied French Knife Grinders

Easier to beat them on the butt and legs if they are lollygagging. :D

It is actually rounded and tapered. But yes, if it was a more pure Price design, it would be flat to match the ricasso,

Jumping in at 90° spin Jimping to go along with the 90° spine? Deliciously uncomfortable. Lol.

The size of this knife was dictated by the Treestump sheath I had on hand. Lol

It is a full flat grind, not hollow and the blade is like 3.75 inches. I don't do saber grinds and the stell that I would be using on futuere knive wuld be tougher than the standard 1095 or O1 that a lot of folks use. I use 1084 and Cru Forge V for simple knives and damascus and DH III W2 for...

    Opinions on knife.

This is a little balde that I made for myself a few years back. I call it a Sab Francisco bushcrafter because I was inspired a bit by the balde and hanlde shape of the Michael Price and Will and Finck spear point bowies. Stell is 115W8/1.2442. It is a bit heavy because of the Micarta, so I made...

    First time forging questions

Little caution. 1075 is not the same as 1080/1084. It is a bit more shallow hardening because it has less manganese.. 1095 even more so. 52100 is going to be more finicky in the HT. I have never used 80CrV2, but it has a lot of very experienced fans. 8670 has tested out as one of the toughest...

    Coated Stainless: Another Silly Question.

Some of the coatings are kind of thick. I have heard some complain that the effect the cutting ability.

I think that might be done fro something like abrasion resitance.

    Coated Stainless: Another Silly Question.

So I have been seeing a number of the "high speed, low drag" type tactical knives for years that are made from stainless super steels like S30V, S35VN, Elmax, etc. The maker/manufacturer picks a very expensive PM stainless steel and then puts a coating on it. Why? Why not pick something that...

    240V Plug Adapter Question

So why do we have 220/20 for things like old window unit air conditioners and a number of kilns? I have a 24 inch Paragon and it is still 220/20. I know that would be like a 110/40 which is probably a bit much for a single hot leg.

    240V Plug Adapter Question

I have a similar problem. My Paragon is 240/20. Can I plug it into a 240/30 drier plug with an adapter?

    Very thin slicer

Call it fishfinder. Looks like the screen. I like the way that the wood continues the pattern. You could turn that into a reasonably priced model. You could make a fair number of blades like that with one billet. Like 10 minimum.

    5160 too soft?

But the hardness standards for the Forestry Service are for 10XX steel axes. That is what the regular Council Tool line is made from. Their two premium lines are made from 5160. i don't think that 1055, etc has the same potential for TME issues. The same goes for knife companies that think that...

    5160 too soft?

I was reading up on the Council Tool Camp Carver axe and noticed that it is 5160 tempered to 55. From what I have read from Larrin's work, 5160 appears to be one of those steels like A2 where you have to "take what the chemistry gives you." Too hard or too soft, not so good. Same with going too...

Stress relief for 15N20 - will it help with warping issues?

Not AEB-L. Similar German steel. At least one heat treater says tell them if it is Aldo steel because it requires a slight modification in the process. I suspect that 13C26 is the same because it is also slightly different. The stuff from Alpha is supposedly not from a coil.
