    Edge Pro Apex

About 15 years ago I bought a shop full of used woodworking tools from a friend who was getting out of the hobby and moving. Included in the lot was a Tormek Supergrind 2000, and a bunch of the sharpening jigs to go with it. I got accustomed to using it with the original stone wheel, but getting...

    Hand stitched

Here you go. I think I got this from one of the leather suppliers on Etsy.

    Hand stitched

Looks like that will work fine to hold the leather, but I like the cheap stitching pony I bought which has a plate that I can sit on in my shop chair. Sitting makes it a lot more comfortable to use.

    Knifemakers and Tool Collectors

I agree with Opaul....I have been using Kant Twist clamps for years and they work well. It also looks to me that I would possibly have problems with squeeze-out gumming up this clamp. But as a certified tool geek, I do like some of TR Maker's stuff. The most useful thing I've purchased was a...

Affordable White Bone or Expensive Mammoth Ivory?

The mammoth looks better to me. It might be a good idea to go ahead and etch your blade so you can compare handle materials with the finished blade.

    I bought a laser engraver/cutter

Yes. I'd like to see how that is done.

    Carbide Straightening Hammer

OK. When I make these from old ball peen hammers I just flatten about a 1/2" spot on the tip of the peen using my grinder and use a carbide drill on it. The handle does make a difference though since on that hammer it isn't symmetrical.

    Carbide Straightening Hammer

KenH, I might be missing something obvious here, but why did you use the flat face rather than the peen head?

Question re: Copper liners on Carbon Fiber.

I have done several knives with copper liners. I used 24 g copper sheet ( about 0.021 in ) and put black 0.020 G-10 in liners on both sides of the copper. DeMo is right. The copper heats up when grinding and it conducts the heat.

    Carbide Straightening Hammer

I have done this quite a few times. Like KenH, I do it on tempered, profiled blades right after heat treat. I do it on a bench anvil, and so far I have not broken or cracked any blades. You are not hitting very hard with the hammer....just multiple quick, light blows. I always get some divots in...

Those Yellow Bellied French Knife Grinders

Wow! I wonder how fast those big wheels were spinning. I would have thought that they would be turning kind of slowly, not like the thousands of rpm's that our angle grinder discs move and that can happen. I bet it would sure get everyone's attention though. o_O

    DeMo 2022 Kith

Thanks DeMo! Funny....all my knife pictures were crap.....usual shop lighting, paper towel background, etc...and so I bought this little gadget. The picture of your knife is one of the first ones with it. I still have so much to learn...

    DeMo 2022 Kith

I received DeMo's knife and sheath on Tuesday. I'm super impressed with the fit and finish, and the leather sheath is a beauty too, characteristic of his leather work. The blade is razor sharp and the hamon really sets it off. Thank you Dennis!

The fit up in that handle is beautiful. Looks like it took a lot of work to match up those curves.

No Ken you are not the only tool-a-holic around. And I'm pretty certain that you and I have plenty of like minded friends in here. There is no such thing as too many tools!

    Thinking about getting a mill/drill

Can you tell us what price range you are considering, and what features you want? I've read that those mills are OK for light milling, but a lot of people don't like the round column design vs a square column. I got a PM-30MV a couple years ago and it has been good for the small stuff I do...
