    Kith WIP (maybe)

The carbide file guide makes getting clean plunge line easy. Thanks for the compliment!

    Sometimes knifemaking is frustrating!

I feel your pain Daniel. It's a balancing act trying to get started in knifemaking. Tools are expensive and it's hard to justify spending money that you don't have. My wife and I are not independently wealthy but we are fiscally responsible. So I'm in a position in life where buying tools is...

    Kith WIP (maybe)

Well I finally got around to getting the 800 grit finish on the blade. There is not much for me to share about my hand sanding process that has not already been covered by someone else. The sanding stick that I use for finish work has 3 layers of sandpaper glued to it. The face is tapered with...

    FIF like or not thread

Well said Mark. Not to beat a dead horse, but all the things you say about learning from the show are true. As said before most people don't use it as a learning experience, nor will they take the time to ask the right questions to learn how to make knives the right way. My rebar processing...

    FIF like or not thread

You can knit-pick my comments Mark. I have thick skin. Maybe it's just in Montana, or the fact that I'm a stock removal guy the fact that almost all my conversation about knife making start with FIF drives me nuts. Most of my conversations are about a knife that can fillet a fish, dress big...

1600 is really hot for that steel. Try 1500 next time.

Why do you make knives? Poll

Apparently I do it to have one sided conversations. Here how it usually goes "why did you just do that, why, why, why....... why! You don't want to start over..... maybe some sand paper and a file will fix it." 10 hours later...."That wasn't so bad"

Some real world experience from a contestant! Thank you for posting Kuraki. It seems most are fine with the way FIF shows the knife making community. For me I'll continue too look at knife making as a marathon not a race. The end product is more important than how you got there.

Kevin I understand the fact that it has ignited a passion for many people to start making knives. You are one of the lucky few that found a place to learn and grow. Generally you won't get misinformed on this forum, and if you are it is corrected by experienced makers. Most don't get that...

    FIF like or not thread

FIF has had a big impact on the knife making community, good and bad. It seems anytime it's mentioned in a thread the original content is instantly lost, and the discussion drifts. I'm a fan of the show and watch it when time allows. Currently I'm only 24 episodes behind! Today was one of...

Where should i sell my knives

I noticed the same thing when I first went to Instagram. The more knife, hunting, and fishing pictures that I liked the less those kind of posts showed up. Now they are non-existent.

    Kith WIP (maybe)

This knife won't be finished for the Kith. But for the sake of the knife I decided to keep the WIP going. This was a last minute decision so the fix at the grinder will be missing. Working on flattening the tang and ricoso on a piece of granite. This usually takes 30 minutes or so, and 5 or six...

Might see a familiar face on Season 2 of Historys Knife or Death.

Justin that is a cool picture of the staff. It's amazing how much work goes into making a show. If I get asked one more time if my knives are made like they are on FIF..... there's a very good possibility I'll have a stroke. Honestly I'm a knife makers worst nightmare thats why testing is...
