Which EDM stone works best on Magnacut? Let's find out!

I just used some EDM stones for the first time this week! Wife got them for Christmas for me last year. I tried to use them flat on a blade (120 grit), but it didn't do all that well, so I put them back in a drawer. I have some Gesswein blue and white ones, but they are around 1/2" wide. I...

What's going on in your shop?

Worked on a few today. Got 2 AEB-L Ventilators handled, waiting to see which one the customer wants as the trainer and which one as the live blade. Handle material is OD Green Suretouch, but I haven't oiled it yet to darken up the green. Also worked on a Magnacut Hunter in Blue Water Camo...

What's going on in your shop?

What's going on in your shop?

2.75" edge Magnacut blade, hidden frame tang with home made micarta type handle material. Gotta trim the guard back a bit and make the handle a bit thinner overall at the front end, but its coming along well! Gotta do 4 for Christmas for my nephews!

    EvenHeat GT 14-6 score!

Realized I never updated this post! PID is hooked up and running. Maxes out at 1715 degrees. I've done several a few Alabama Damascus blades, some 1095, HHH Damascus blades and some other simple carbon steel with it and it is working great! I want to get a new set of coils for it and am...

What's going on in your shop?

Thanks! They are a fun project and I have some ideas to make them a bit simpler down the road. Hardest part of finding a wide bar of damascus to do them. I want to do some with stainless steel and just etch the pattern on it.

What's going on in your shop?

Did up another pizza cutter in walnut handle scales. Customer wanted the handle thinner for his wife who has tiny hands, so I had to thin the disc down, re grind it and make a smaller handle: Did up one in Snakewood (solid block, no spacer) and one in Red, White, Blue acrylic with a red G10...

Hand sanding liquid? Windex vs tapping fluid?

Good to know about the non ferrous! I am playing with making Mokume and noticed really slow cutting of the material and belts clogging a lot. I want to try hand sanding dry next and cleaning the paper with a rubber belt cleaner block and see how long the paper lasts for! I found the tapping...

Hand sanding liquid? Windex vs tapping fluid?

Yeah, a 5-6 drops was all I needed after each time I wiped down! I've had the stuff for years, still have a ton of it left! Glad I am not the only one not using Windex!

Hand sanding liquid? Windex vs tapping fluid?

Most of the places I have seen recommend Windex for hand sanding a blade. I used Windex on a HHH Damascus 254mm gyuto I made (Also a S Grind) and it worked pretty well to go up to an 800 grit finish before etching and then 1200 after etching. I made up a sanding block about 3/8" thick and one...

Chisel pry knife with metal butt end

I think I am going to try to Tig weld the layers together (2 layers of 1/4" 8670 on each side of the 1/4" 8670 tang) and then do the forge weld after so I don't have to worry about the pieces shifting on me and I can keep oxygen out of the welds, too. Should be interesting!

Chisel pry knife with metal butt end

Buddy wants another chisel pry knife, but with a metal butt cap so he can use a hammer on it to push it into crevices and stuff. He is in hvac and uses the knife to chisel and pry away wood. Going to use 8670 for the blade. Do I forge or tig weld pieces of 8670 to the end of the tang like a...

    Bandsaw Tolerances?

I switched my HF 14" bandsaw from a cool block guide setup to a Accura bearing guide setup and it seems to track and cut much better. If I am splitting blocks, I use a thick marker to mark my cut line and keep the blade within that line so I know I have plenty extra to flatten the scales fully...

    Fake Scammer Instagram Sites

I remove them as followers when they follow me and block them and any new accounts they make. I don't understand when they see what I am making and then offer to sell me their garbage to sell as my own. Really???

    First welding machine

I have a YesWelder Tig 205DS that does stick and Tig. I wanted TIG to weld billets (damascus, san mai and mokume) without a filler rod for forge welding w/o flux. I also wanted to be able to do basic shop fabrication like welding work sticks, making up fixtures/jigs, etc. These were both...

Hand sanding a convex grind on a kitchen knife

Not the best pic, but 800 grit hand rub on a 245mm S grind gyuto. Took about an hour each side working 220 up to 800. I went to a A30 micron belt on my belt sander before hand rubbing. My radius platen has leather facing on it and the convex portion was on F3 felt. It was pretty easy hand...

Hand sanding a convex grind on a kitchen knife

Felt gives a nicer convex than leather. I got the F3 on amazon, 1/4" thick. Or do scotchbrite under the leather.

Hand sanding a convex grind on a kitchen knife

Try firm felt like F3 on a metal platen. It lets you push into it to get a convex, but not thin out the spine too much.
