I made this and thought I would share

That chart is a little confusing because it has the heat treating steps out of order. The tempering temperatures could be more complete and I really question the accuracy of the tempering temperatures and the resulting HRc results for the 8670. Doug

Surgery-Thoughts and Prayers for my daughter (Update)

My hopes and prayers are for her full recovery. Sorry to hear that she had to go back to surgery to tie off a bleeder but those things happen. Doug

    Spyderco Tenacious Custom Scale Ultralight

I'm not fond of pocket clips, I think that they were invented to cause people to loose their pocketknives, but that is a very nice looking knife there. Doug

I fancy it too. Looks like you have a carrier ahead of you. Doug

New use for old lug nuts

Did you have to turn the blade end of the block to the inside diameter of the lug nut, put the nut over it, roach out the tang hole, insert the tang then use the flats of the lugs as a guide in forming the flats of the handle? Doug

    Cactus Juice

Not that I know of. If I were needing to have wood stabilized, especially in low volumes I would send it into a professional outfit. Doug

Would love some feedback on my first knife design

By chisel ground, are you meaning a single bevel? If you are, unless you are making it for a left handed person, I would grind the bevel on the other side. Doug

    Cryo quenching

At the risk of looking like a smart ass (my ex-wives would agree that that's one of my strong points) may I ask what steel you are treating. With something like 1075 all you are going to do is make your steel real cold with no real benefit for the molecular structure of the steel. Some of you...

Making Damacus (or patterned steel if you prefer:-))

Jim Hrisoulas' The Master Bladesmith[/] is good but he also wrote a book just dealing with pattern welding. Unfortunately, I can't find which pile of books it's in. Doug

    New at stabilizing wood.

You have a 4000psi pressure washer for under $1000? How much wood could you get stabilized at K&G for that much money? Probably will last a while. Doug

    New at stabilizing wood.

I was watching Path of Fire on You Tube and the lady who runs it actually stabilized a piece of lump charcoal. I don't know if she is fixing to go forward with it but she thinks it's solid enough to make a handle with. Of course I imagine that the block ended up being more cured resin than...

    New at stabilizing wood.

You also might ask yourself why you need to stabilize wood. Granted there are some woods that do need to be stabilized to make good knife handles but there are knives that have been around for decades with ordinary hickory handles. There are also some wood that are about as stable as they get...
