Asking Questions on a Technical Forum

Some of your list very well may be true. And at the same time, possibly warranted AT TIMES. Your list is from the perspective of the asker. The perspective of the answerer may be different. Probably a case by case basis is the right approach. Sometimes the asker, or the way they ask, warrants...

Asking Questions on a Technical Forum

There might be some legitimacy to that. It is a LONG post (which I did read) to really not have much of a point. Which is fine if you just wanted to type your observations. There could be a lot unpacked from your post if one wanted to.

    Sawing Desert Iron Wood?

When I first got my saw, the insert sucked. I made one out of g-10. Still going strong over 8 years later.

Nice. Do you sell any of that.

    Bandsaw Tolerances?

I second this. Personally I wouldn't cut phenolics/micarta/g10/synthetic anything on a wood cutting bandsaw. You're just wasting money on blades. They're generally too fast and the blades aren't typically made to handle those kinds of material.

    Sawing Desert Iron Wood?

I use my 14" wood cutting bandsaw with a wide 3 TPI blade for resawing ironwood all the time. And I haven't changed the blade in at least two years.......and maybe 3. Your blade should be fine. I resaw 3/8" scales into folder scales with zero issues all the time. Something else is going on...

    Damascus & walnut hunter

Just in time for hunting season, I finished this one up last night. A really nice simple classic hunter style with everything you need and nothing you don't. 3 3/4" blade of mosaic 1084/15n20 Damascus with rounded spine and ricasso edge. Damascus sculpted/flared guard. Oil finished curly Claro...

Hand sanding a convex grind on a kitchen knife

Do your final finish on your last grit with straight pulls with a flexible backed sanding stick. Use a hard stick but backed with something a little bit spongy/flexible like leather, hard felt or rubber. I personally like the synthetic rubberized cork gasket material you can get at an auto...

    W2 & Amboyna burl bowie

Hi Bruce. This is stabilized but I still do the sane process as natural wood, regardless. I use teak oil, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Tru oil was something VERY similar just rebranded/repackaged. So this has about 6 coats of teak oil wet sanded into the finish starting at 220 grit...
