What's going on in your shop?

Or gas prices. Up till recently, I didn't know gas pumps cut off at $100. Sent from my Champion Forge using Tapatalk

It turned out fantastic. After 12 hours on a blade like that, I bet those smaller knives felt like a cake walk. (Cake walk? Isn't that the saying?) Sent from my Champion Forge using Tapatalk

    Grinder kit ups and downs

You mentioned auto-body work. Sorta funny. I was working with 26 gauge steel at the anvil yesterday and a chasing hammer would've been ideal. Big flat face for flattening sheet metal... ended up just using a big ballpein. Sent from my Champion Forge using Tapatalk

    Grinder kit ups and downs

A 12 ounce ball pein gets a LOT of use in my shop. I recommend you get a couple different sizes of them. The 12 ounce gets used for mostly bench work. Tapping in pins, riveting, etc. It's worth checking Ebay, Facebook Marketplace, etc for old hammers. Doesn't matter if they have handles or...

    Anyony using Kirinite for scales?

I just sent and email to the Kirinite customer service people... "Hi. I have a couple questions regarding the permeability and chemical resistance of Kirinite. Can I use a solvent such as acetone to clean epoxy off of Kirinite? Also, what happens if I expose Kirinite to a Ferric Chloride...

Scrap the knife?! That's a little bit extreme, isn't it? :D Sent from my Champion Forge using Tapatalk

Forge and knife shaped object (non hardenable)

You said that it got the stock red. Depending on what type of steel or stainless or whatever I'm forging, I like a medium to bright yellow. The corner of that stock is how got I like to get the steel when I'm rough forging. The piece in the picture is about 1/2"x 3" (maybe bigger?) from a truck...

I couldn't get the link to load... The Tapatalk app is great for uploading photos to forums. Just scroll to the bottom of the page when you're typing a reply or starting a thread and hit the button that looks like sheet of paper with a plus sign in it. Sent from my Champion Forge using Tapatalk

Tong choices or big pliers maybe?

    Re-handle opinions…

Hmm... On one hand, it's their knife now. On the other hand, it has your name on it. I'm with Dennis. Offer to rehandle it in whatever style they decided they wanted. OR go fishing with them, borrow the knife for a second, and drop it in deep water. :D

Tong choices or big pliers maybe?

It's an induction furnace or induction metal heater. If you look up something like "induction bolt heater" on Amazon you'll see a lot of 120VAC handheld models that are marketed for automotive work. The idea being you can wrap the induction coil around stuck fasteners to heat them instead of...

Tong choices or big pliers maybe?

Cast iron isn't too difficult to weld. Even if the vise isn't worth fixing, it's a good opportunity to practice welding cast. I have no experience with Hobart Nomacast (Normacast?), but they sell it at Tractor Supply and it's a fair bit cheaper than Ni99 or Ni55 rods. This would be a good...

Here are some pictures of that vise I was talking about. I'm just linking to pictures I uploaded to the Welding Web forum. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220601/e210beb30b5669191a0ca0b08c12eb31.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220603/92f3d6a9952d00149b59c91973241b00.jpg...

Been there, done that. I broke a similar size vise 2 or 3 weeks ago. Looks like you have a pretty fun welding project lined up now. :)

    410, 420 steel prices.

Unless you can guarantee a supply of whatever material you need, you're probably better off making knives based on what materials you can get in stock.
