It’s been hot in the shop the last couple of weeks but I finally got this one done. Alabama Damascus with sheep’s horn. Red and white liners with brass pins.

The thickness of the tip of that filet knife was between .018-.020. Not any way to hold it without grinding your fingers off.

The plan is to use a magnet and the glass platen without a work rest. I’ve done that in the past.

Yep billyo. That’s the plan. I’m changing methods so it won’t happen again. Lesson learned :)

My work rest extends behind the platen too. Happened on the last couple of inches of the blade because it became unsupported by the rest. Had a glass platen on my old grinder just sitting there. Could have used it and a magnet. Yep. Very stupid mistake.

That's really nice! I've used scrap bits of Damascus to make jewelry and the ladies in the family love them.

Had a really nice filet knife going. I was trying to grind on the work rest with a push stick. The belt grabbed and pulled it between the rest and the belt. I was doing it that way because I hadn't installed a glass platen on my new grinder so I could use a magnet to hold it. Pretty stupid...

Hi Adam! I'm new to making kitchen knives so I'm still experimenting with thicknesses to figure out what I like. I used .074 ABEL on my first chef knife and a set of steak knives. The set of ten that I have profiled are a little thicker at .100. I heat treated three of the steak knives yesterday...

Not yet. They are ready to heat treat and I’ll be doing that this week.

Working on custom order. A set of ten kitchen knives in ABE-L. A chef, junior chef, utility, paring, and six steak knives. A long way to go and a lot of work before it turns into something nice.
