I’ve used it on bolsters and like it very much. I would probably stabilize it before using it. May not need it but wouldn’t hurt.

I sand to 800 grit. Use white then pink compound. Using two loose buffing wheels, one for each compound, and light pressure seems to work well. I don't avoid the pins. They get polished as well. I use the center of the wheel for the scales and the edges for the spine.

The bolster on this knife is imitation ivory. A very light color and softer than stabilized wood. It was buffed with white compound and then pink. I don’t think his problem is the buffer but compound choice and technique.

You may be using a too aggressive buffing compound. I buff with white first followed by a "no scratch" pink. Doesn't take a lot of pressure to get a good shine.

It’s some sort of imitation stone but it’s a resin type material.

Working on one with a spruce pine cone handle. I’m off next week from my regular job and working in the knife shop. I should have some stuff to post.

That’s a totally different situation than just bailing and very understandable. Take care of your health and don’t push it. Knives can wait.

I’ve done three KITH here and have made three great friends. That’s the really nice part of participating.

He should have communicated to you that he was having trouble but just to not say anything is inexcusable. Whoever the guy is should be banned from participating in future KITHs. That’s no better than being a thief in my book.
