    Yet another grinder thread ....

Do you have any knifemakers local to you that you can visit and try out their setups? You may find some features others insist on don't mean much to you. I run an Ameribrade. That uses 2" tool arm bars, but I don't have all that many accessories. I have their combo platen with 2 and 6"...

    Stand

Duh, thanks Ken! Never even thought of that...LOL. I want to weld some angle iron legs on and get rid of the wood legs too.

What's going on in your shop?

I was early at around 17/18 years old when I started in 1998! I think I have that first one at my parents house somewhere. I did a few kits before that, but a machinist friend gave me a piece of O-1, 1/4" thick and around 2" wide. I used a Drill press, hacksaw and files to profile it, and...

    Stand

I made my own table for mine, but it's a pain to undo the table to swap blades because the saw is held to the table by the screws. The HF version looks like it supports the saw itself, so the table will be easier to take on and off. It looks like it will work well to cut tube and angle as well...

    Hello.....

Welcome!! I recognized the name from back when I got into knives in the late 1990's/early 2000's!

What's going on in your shop?

Oops, forgot to post a couple again! 4" Magnacut drop point with orange AmeraGrip handle scales with thick, vintage natural micarta liners. Customer has big hands, so I made the handle a bit chonkier for his hands! I did a different method for the jimping on this one. I used a side...

That looks pretty nice with the table! I may try to get one for my birthday.

    hand forged vs. production

I've seen excellent production knives at a good price and horrible, expensive custom/hand forged knives that were garbage. Hand Forged/Custom made does not always equal quality and now, there are many knives "hand forged" that are mass produced turds and resold online by tons of people who...

    Cable damascus

I got some from Etsy a month or so ago from Official Yeti Forge, but haven't used it yet. They had multiple sizes and I got 5, 10" pieces of 1.5" diameter. I also picked up 3 pieces of 1 1/4" and used 2 of the 3 so far from High Temp Tools. I do it by hand only, but I got a 1/4" thick, 7"...

    Welder under $1000.

Yeah, 110v on the YesWelder sucks, but it also does 220v as well and works much better. I just have no clue how to weld properly! I am getting better with TIG, but still struggle with stick welding. I would go for a 3 in 1 machine that has MIG capability in case you hate stick welding as...

    Welder under $1000.

Yeah, but welding work sticks and molds with mig dont matter. I would still use tig w/o filler for damascus billets. Mig is much easier for me than stick is.

What's going on in your shop?

Spent $33 on Amazon for 2, Vintaj brand 8oz ball peen hammers and 2, 3/8" carbide balls. The heads were noted as being pretty soft in the reviews, which is why I went with them. Their quality is poor, but for a straightening hammer, it doesn't matter! About 5 minutes to drill the holes with a...

    Welder under $1000.

I picked up a YesWelder Tig 205DS last summer. I run stick and TIG. I use the TIG (no filler rod) to weld up quarters for Mokume and to seal billets (weld all of the layers of the billet so air can't get in) and the Stick for more structure type welding, ie welding work sticks on to billets...

What's going on in your shop?

Made myself a 3.5" O-1 paring knife. Handles are from a rosewood xolor laminated wood from Current Composites that is a few decades old. They made laminates like Dymondwood for gun grips and had some left overs. Full flat grind from 3/32" stock and a distal taper. Super slicey!

    upgrade scales on Benchmade Griptillian

There are tons of places selling aftermarket scales and other parts for Benchmades. You should be able to find a YouTube video of how to take apart and re assemble the knife pretty easily! I am considering doing the same to my bugout when I find it.

    Makers Mark

I use a Cricut and cut my simple stencil out. I only use it once, but I can change the size if needed, too, or do custom stuff on the knife. I rarely have an issue with bleed out around the stencil since I use adhesive vinyl.

What's going on in your shop?

Got the Dagger done! The right side of the tip looks funky, but it's from the pic itself. The black AmeraGrip looks really cool, almost like a tight carbon fiber look to it! Did the wider S90V drop point with spine jimping and buffed the AmeraGrip at the customers request. It actually...

What's going on in your shop?

Started my first dagger! 1/8" 80CRV2 steel, going to have 4 layers of Carbon Fiber Marble for the guard (with a red liner in the middle), black AmeraGrip for the handle and black G10 for the frame and red liners. Got the Cable knife fully done. Kryptek compliments the cable pattern...

How Long Do You Use a Grinder Belt?

The 1" ones I think do this more because the pressure is over less area. The 2" ones spread the pressure out more, but it is still easy to over do it if you aren't careful! I've been using them for I think over a year now and learned to use a very light touch, especially when they are new! As...
