I have wanted to try some cable damascus and a friend of mine ,who has a cable company, gave me a 6 Ft length of 1.5'' cable so here we go . I am trying a 6'' chunk first figuring I'd make my mistakes on it first . In the pix I have forged it out to 8'' and now I will cut it into pieces to see how the welds set.IMG_2210.JPGIMG_2211.JPG

I thought that after I told you I would forge weld the 2 together! A piece of 15n20 i was thinking! Edge would be bright and the cable would be patterned and darker!

Cool Fred sometimes I wonder if folks in the forums are looking in my window. I found some cable as well and I thought I'd try welding it up now that I'm getting my forge back up. I bought Gene Chapman's video and read Wayne Goddard's comments in $50 knife shop. I'd like to get his video, too.

Anyway would you recommend any other media you've found helpful?
 
Here is a piece of the billet , I forged it out then cut it in half and placed a piece of 15N20 in the middle . Forged it out again and here we are , I can see some small inclusions but I am hopping they go away as I grind the blade , I am keeping in mind that this is a learning process, but still would like to see a good blade as an outcome.IMG_2220.JPG
