    That makes sense...

    Anvil choice??

I understand. That was my dilemma as well. USA made anvils are quite expensive. Blacksmith Supply carries some Kanka anvils which are Turkish made, and a fairly decent price. I almost bought one. That was before I realized I was going to be forging banisters for my deck.

    Anvil choice??

Italics mine. I have the Vevor 110 lb anvil that I bought for like $120? on sale. It's OK..but if I had to do it again, I would get a better anvil. The hardness in several spots is iffy. I've been using it to make pickets for a Bannister, which is fairly light stuff and it works OK for that. I...

    New Chinisium Tig

Also on the Argon tank I would go with the 80. But that's not entirely an informed opinion. I don't have a tank (yet) for my welder, but I've been looking extensively and I think the 80 is a better buy in the long run. But I suppose it also depends on how much you are going to use it. If all you...

    New Chinisium Tig

That's a really good price! The Welder I bought recently, An ArcCaptain 200 will do TIG. Though you have to buy the TIG torch separately. I really like the multi-functionality as I can also do stick, MIG with gas or not and Aluminum with a spool gun. And it will also do spot welds. I don't...

New shop tools and a new deck

Thanks Bob. The Deck itself is Redwood with a Redwood stain. The supports are all treated Douglas Fir. All of the bolts are stainless. And the hangars are all specifically for decking. I think I spent more on hardware than I did wood. And I absolutely love this welder. It's both 110 and 220. I...

New shop tools and a new deck

Thanks Dennis. Not all of the upgrades were necessary for the deck. I could have opted for wooden railings. My next door neighbor has iron railings on his deck. His were done by a commercial outfit. They look really nice, but I couldn't afford to spend the $20K he did on his deck. So I'm opting...

New shop tools and a new deck

Thanks Gliden...My wife passed away last year and left a small life insurance policy that covered all of it and then some. The deck turned out to be double what I had originally budgeted, so the extra money was needed. And my old welder was simply not up to the task of doing the iron work. And I...

New shop tools and a new deck

Hello I haven't posted on here in some time. Couple reasons. One I had surgery in February that kept me out of the shop for two months. And since then I've been working on replacing a very shabby deck. As a result I bought several new tools for the shop. So here are a few photos of what I've...
