Has anyone used a wood sealer on your handles? I want to make a couple handles out of a Hockey Stick for a hockey nut friend of mine and i think that the wood will need to be sealed as the stick is made of multiple glued layers... Thanks in advance!

My favorite is Walnut, but a close second is Hickory. (Old ax handles make great hidden tang knives)

Good point! I mostly picked up hard woods, but I did got a couple laminates just to see how they would work out... thanks for the info on that!

Go to Lowes, the wood flooring section. They have samples of all kinds of different woods from oak to bamboo and I even scored the last walnut. The thickness is about 3/8 - 1/4 in. 4-5 inches square. Oh and the best part - they cost $.25.

I have used veggie oil from my fryer in an old ammo can. Heat Treating smells like french fries...I'm considering the name - Tasty Blades... But seriously - I've used motor oil, veggie, and wheni was lucky enough to sit in on some elses shop, ATF... I don' delve too deep into that stuff. Veggie...
