I have found a few images on the net of Bowies I like and one is a tang Bowie with a leather stacked handle which my uncle has asked me to make for him.
Tomorrow I am getting CAD images done by a friend but I need to know the size / dimensions / best design for the tang area as I have seen quite a few different tang images all slightly different.
What would be the best dimensions for the tang and a good size where the guard meets the blade please? …..hope this makes sense as I have never done a Bowie before. If someone has an image with dimensions of that area that would be great.
Also I will be getting the steel most likely from a pal , 52100, this I imagine would be good for Bowies? ..The blanks will be laser cut and heat treated prior so would it be better to bet the blades salt bath heat treated and leave the tangs exposed or would I be ok getting the whole blade heat treated and just 'draw' the tangs back keeping the blade cool?
