I finished this batch of six knives today, one week before I leave for The Knifemakers Guild Show in Louisville Ky.
These are my version of the ubiquitous Fiddle Bow Bread Knife. I don't make them from kits like you see at the arts and craft shows,I make these from scratch, using my worn out portaband blades for blade stock. On this batch I surface ground the 12" blades to .018" thick to remove all the steel that was exposed as a saw blade. After grinding in the scallops I grind the bevels to a simetrical zero edge. These blades are 45 Rc,plenty hard for a bread knife,I have yet to need to re sharpen one of these.
What do y'all think about the new non conventional colors, red and oxblood?
