The problem is not the bulbs, but more the spread of the light. The diffusion material could be greater and the light source moved farther away from the diffusion. More highlight, move the source closer as you have seen. Greater diffusion, try pulling it back. Also, you may want to try using a fill card (something white to reflect light back into the shadows) which will highlight the blade edge. Beyond that, thank God...and a lot of serious photo geeks, for Photoshop.
