Second Knife WIP

I took an in progress photo of my second knife. The scales have been rough shaped and the blade needs to be hardened. My brother-in-law gave me the beautiful piece of Hawaiian wood for the handle.

It's not Koa. I believe it is "Koai'a" which is denser than Koa. I'll have to follow-up with my brother-in-law just to make sure. He is from Hawaii and had been holding on to this piece of wood for a number of years. I was told this wood was used to make shark tooth clubs, daggers, fish hooks etc. You wouldn't want to try to build a boat out of it because it sinks like a rock!

Those shark tooth clubs look so sweet, as long as you were not looking at one in the hand of your advisory I bet! Before becoming desensitized to many exotic woods I built one piece and two piece hybrid longbows as my second job. It was cool to order exotics and to see how incredibly dense some of them were as well as how brittle they could be.
