Ricasso ... straighten out the line

Was just wondering how you guys straighten out the ricasso if it´s not perfectly straight?

do you use a finer belt or do you start with a rougher one ?

do you use a jig?

Thx

I file mine in after profiling the blade, and before grinding. I use a round file the diameter of the blade steel and a home made file jig, then grind carefuly blending very close to the center of the file groove, then touch up with a file and hand sanding to finish the area.

well that´s a good idea.

had some problems with the ricasso beeing not perfectly straight lately.

especially when I don´t pay much attention while grinding.

it´s no big deal when the ricasso is not that big

but if I put one on like the ricasso on a Busse or Rangerknives I tend to have a little nick close to the choil... very annoying and hard to get rid off

I have heard that´s the best is to move the blade up and down on the edge of the platten to straighten things out but that doesn´t work that well when the belt is already 1/4" off the edge to make a nice round cut...
