Old files, what to do?

Since last September I have been collecting old files. I have about a shoe box full mostly spent. I was going to grind some knives from them, is there anything else to consider doing with them?

I have several scrapers and tang saws I've made from old files, I heat-treat them like 1095/w1 or just leave them in the hardened state. Supposedly some are case-hardened but I've not ran into one yet....

Buy some 15n10 and make some pattern welded steel out of them , Make san mai , take mild still on the outside and file in the center, You can also use wrought iron, But test the file first. Have fun.

Well, I decided to grind out some blanks, Cacique you answered my question before I asked it. I was wondering the best way to get the rust off them.
Spent meaning they have many miles on them (worn down)
