Newbie question about a false Edge

I don't want to incorporate a feature on a knife, that I have no idea of its specifications, or use. So please explain why you would want a false Edge, and its parameters. In other words, how do I explain what it is, why it is,. What's the difference between a false Edge and just a dull Edge when do you use it when do you not use it. yep I'm a newbie thanks for your help

I believe a false edge is an actual sharpened edge, its just not the main edge. A true combat/fighting knife might require a false edge for slashing back cuts. I expect this need would be exceedingly rare.

If its not sharp, I believe swedge is an acceptable term. A couple valid practical reasons for a swedge would be to create a visual contrast line for detail and/or to thin the point for better piercing ability.
