Sorry, long day in the shop and i'm getting depressed
While working on this first attempt at a hamon I started to wonder...
Why all the hamd sanding? Can't I just bring it to a mirror finish like I normally would and final buff on the buffing wheel. Then clean the blade of residue, etch, and final polish with 1500-2000 grit?
Seems to me a mirror finish is a mirror finish buffer or by hand.
My other thought was... how deep can I grond after HT without grinding away the hamon? In theory...
I'm currently hand sanding at 800 grit. I could see the hamon already at 320 grit.
I'ts sort of like a play of light that's visible at times.
