I am looking for a information on heat treating M2 tool steel. Every thing I have read said it is air quench but should really be quenched in a salt pot. Any thoughts? If I send it out for heat treat where should I send it? Any suggestions on a steel that is comparable
 
The only reference that I have for M2 says that it can be air or oil quenched. The salt pot quench may be referring to marquenching which would even the passing through the martensizing phase. I would stick with the air quench if I didn't want to marquench. Sorry that I have no more information but I haven't worked with it.

Thanks Doug. The information is helpful. M2 is hard to find. Alpha is the only supplier I could find in small amounts.
