Knife Grinding Jig

I saw a jig made of angle iron and bolts. I believe it was CJS Knives. I was at a resale shop the other day looking for some angle iron to make one when I saw a heavy duty hinge. Here is what I came up with. Take the hinge apart and cut off the last pin receiver on the end. Insert a bolt and nut. Set at desired angle. Attach knife. Grind. The knife was made from a piece of cable; that I hope turns out well. The jig seems to work pretty well. It is alot better than my free hand style. I'll post the finished knife soon. Thanks for looking. Jamie

Cool!
I've seen these before on a site,It was about ten years and I had forgotten about it.
Never saw a finished or mostly ground knife to know how it would finish?

Thanks for posting, I am very interested in how it works out for you?

Outstanding! Jigs are good and simple jigs (like yours) are great. Well done.

Jeff from CJS knives is a good friend of mine. Sounds like you were looking at the jig he made. I made a similar version myself with a couple of tweaks, but I like your jig as well!
Another option I've tried once or twice is tilting my flat platen instead of the angle of the jig. That way I can use just a plain old piece of angle iron and leave it at 90 degrees.

That being said, I tried using my modified CJS jig as well as one or two others that I made, but I've found it's usually quicker and easier to get the results I'm looking for if I free hand. They do have their place from time to time though.

All,

Thanks for the replys. I recently bought the GIB and just about have it put together. Still saving for the motor and VFD. Right now I'm using a 1" x 42" Delta grinder so I need all the help I can get!

Thanks again,

Jamie
