I just joined this forum in hope of learning about knife making.

My son collects knives and swords, and I thought I would give him a knife making kit of some sort for his 20th birthday. I don't know if we have the proper metal working tools to even consider putting knives together. I do a lot of woodworking / turning / carving, and have a pretty well equipped wood shop. Do I really need a kiln to put a kit together; don't any of them come with tempered blades??

Anyway, I'm always eager to learn new tricks & how-to's. Hope I'll get lots of opportunities here on this forum.

Cheers,
Bob Hendry

Welcome...I have never done a kit knife, but my guess would be that any kit knife, will have a heat treated blade.
Good luck,

God bless,
Keith

Welcome to the pack here at KnifeDogs.

Kit Knives come with the blade already Heat treated, all you need to do is hand finish the blade and mount the Scales and bolster etc...

Your shop sounds like way more than enough to finish out some Kit knives if you want to get your son started in knife making?

I started making my blades , But I know www.jantzsupply.com is one place that sells Kit knives ready to assemble.
