First slip joint

Nice job for a first try. I tried a kit knife and that was a disaster. I guess I will stick with liner locks.

Getting ready to heat treat the blade and spring on my second attempt. Much smaller this time. Small blades are very difficult to grind - for me anyway.

What are you using to cut the nail nick in your blades?

I’m using a dremel abrasive cut off wheel and touching up with files.

I don't know if this will help your or it is the blind leading the blind, but I did a real time build along on redditt where I took pictures almost every night. Take everything I did with grain of salt, as I've already changed my process some since writing this:

That is a pretty dog on good for a first attempt with no official slip joint training. I would consider that a huge success. If it follows the path mine did, the spring tension will lessen as you use it, so it may still end up where you want it. Good job.

I went back and looked at your scale, and from the pictures, it does not look bad. I see what you are saying but it is pretty close to my eye. Is the pivot pin brass? It is hard to tell from the pictures.
