Can I use the engine’s weight as the abrasive belt tightener?

I want to build a simple robust belt grinder; can I mount the engine on a plate with a hinge, so his 33 lbs will be the tightener of the set up, using no spring? Can I please see some pictures of such a set up, if available? Did someone make this before? Aren’t 33 lbs a bit too much stress on the abrasive belt? What will the best way be to mount the engine on a plate so I will be able to adjust tracking, i.e. left – right & back – forward movement in relatively to the tracking wheel?
Any help or tips and ideas of how to build such a grinder will be much appreciated.

I have never seen the motor used to tension the belt, but I do have mine on hinges to tension the drive belt with step pulleys.
