A new non-knife type AXE

Steven Janik

SUPERMOD & AWARDS BOSS
Guitarists often call their guitar an AXE.

This is my first attempt at building one. The body and neck are pre cut and all the electronics, knobs and parts are from the local Guitar Center.

This style is a copy of a 1955 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top and is very popular with top guitarists. An original '55 in good shape commonly sell for $20,000.00 in today's market.

Dyeing the top with Cobalt Blue analine dye.

Creating the "Sunburst" effect with an airbrush.

Shooting the first of 5 coats of high solid vinyl sealer. I sand to 600 between each coat.

After 5 coats of conversion varnish and polished with a 3 step cream polish.

These are Gibson brand knobs and fittings. They have been in production since 1955, so they are essentially original equipment.

I used my knife logo stencil and made a "coin" for the head piece.

The back and neck are also shot with the 10 coat process with black dyed conversion varnish.

Thanks for looking,
