Christmas gifts for my parents - 2 custom knives

I'm happy to report that my Mom as been using her Cutco replica paring knife daily since Christmas, and it is holding up well. She hasn't used the Cutco knife since I made this one for her. My mother is in the kitchen for a good portion of her day, all meals home cooked no cheating at their...

Christmas gifts for my parents - 2 custom knives

These two knives are my second (blue) and third (brown) ever. I wanted to see how well I could do with "real" materials as opposed to the lawn mower blade I used last time. Both are 440C stainless, created via stock removal(bandsaw/drill press/belt sander, & air tools). Hardened to just over...

"My very first knife" - post up!

This was my very first, made earlier this year. Cut from a lawn mower blade, no heat treatment. Oak scales made from an oak branch snagged from the firewood pile. Made it for my son to whittle with. My last (second) is done but I haven't taken pics yet.

    BF Hacked???

I'm pretty sure that's the site that borked my pc today. Like unusable borked. Fricken hackers can burn in hell.

Tips for assembly please? Scales on full tang with pins

Regarding the Loveless vs Corby designs - you'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge here - I was actually thinking of the Corby style bolts earlier. However, now that I've actually looked both of them up, I think I'd use either one without hesitation. They appear to do the same thing, and with...

Tips for assembly please? Scales on full tang with pins

Hi all, thanks again for all the tips. I finished the knife today, will follow up with nice pics tomorrow. I had intended for the knife to be used for my father's butchering chores, so it could use more of a grind like you guys said. On the other hand, now that it's finished it looks really...

Tips for assembly please? Scales on full tang with pins

Thanks Laurence. I discovered the loveless bolts after I placed my order of supplies for this build; they look great and I am looking forward to trying them on a future knife. I do use masks(and safety glasses and faceshields sometimes), I have a few different types that I use for different...

Tips for assembly please? Scales on full tang with pins

Hi all, I'm almost ready to assemble this knife for the final time. I'd like to reach out and see what tips you can offer before I just go with whatever I think makes sense (and then regret it). Tomorrow I will finish polishing my blade. The G10 scales are finished. I have brass that I plan...

Finished Today - Bowie and a Glacier

Nice work on both, I like them. I'd like to try a parkerized finish soon. Black adds so much emphasis to a tactical blade.

Need to add pin holes after hardening... oops!

I was able to get the holes added. You can pretty much forget drilling this stuff! Lesson learned!! Now to get this bad boy finished.

    New from NY

Thanks Laurence. I picked up some carbide tipped masonry bits at Home Depot on my way home today, will try them out tomorrow. For the knife design, I took an idea I had and tried to make it a nice natural fit to my hand. I can't wait to finish it, I have this picture in my head and I'd love to...

Any tips on getting the holes drilled without annealing/re-hardening would be most helpful!

    New from NY

Hello all, I'm new to the hobby. I find it rewarding to make pieces of metal useful and good looking. My first knife was this small whittler I made for my son from a lawn mower blade and a seasoned branch from the backyard. I'm currently working on number 2 and 3. Number 2 will...

Need to add pin holes after hardening... oops!

Need to add pin holes after hardening... help! I'm making a knife for my father for Christmas, shaped a blade from 440C and hardened & tempered it. Brought it from 21.4hrc to 58.7hrc. And then realized today that I'm not going to get holes in it with my TiN coated bits... Any suggestions...
