    Some of my recent knives

These are some of the knives I have made over the last few months. I have had a lot more fun since I have stopped taking orders. These are what I wanted to make at the time I happened to be making them.

    Triangular basket weave.

Anyone have any tips on how to keep things straight when using the triangular basket weave tool. After a while things start to not line up as I continue to bring the weave pattern across the sheath. There always seems to be one place where it is just "off" Any help would be appreciated...

San Mai with Blackwood and Micarta

This is some of my high contrast san mai. The blade is designed to look as though it has a hamon, but much more bold. The core steel is 1095, and the outer layers are low carbon high nickel steel. The spine is fileworked and the flats are left with the forge scale, because I like how it looks...

San Mai to replicate a hamon

I have been doing hamons for quite a while, and I thought I would try some 3 layer san mai in order to replicate the look of a hamon and still be able to fully harden the blade. Here they are

    Merry Christmas

1And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. 2(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4And Joseph also went up from...

    First time with Stingray

This package was full of firsts, first time with ironwood burl (I have used ironwood before, but this burl was really nice) first time with W2 and first time with stingray. I think the whole package turned out really nicely.

W2 and Stingray Going out the Door.

Here is one going to a BF member. It is W2 with ironwood burl and some stingray leather on the sheath. One of my favorites so far. What do you think.

    Knife for a Co-Worker

This is for the 7th grade science teacher where I teach. He wanted a knife specifically to go through the pelvic bone of a deer. I made this one out of 1/4" 1095 steel. When I make a knife, I put a 2x4 in a vice and jab the tip of the knife in, then crank it from side to side to make sure the...

    KITH knife

Here is my KITH knife for the bladeforums Christmas KITH. I believe it stands for Knife In The Hat, but I am not sure. Anyways, it is 1084 steel, forged and clay quenched. The sheath is hand stitched and oil dyed. I really like this piece, I hope it goes to a good home.

Who is going to the Ohio Classic?

I will be there this weekend. If you are going, please stop by and say "Hi" (no this is not a ploy to get you to buy a knife!) Feel free to use your Knife Dogs name. It is how I know most of you anyways! Matt

    Knives for the Ohio Classic

Here are the ones I am taking to the Ohio Classic. I started setting aside a knife a month back in March. Every once in a while I would throw another in a box. Lately, I just finished up 4 that I wanted to squeeze in at the last minute. Now it is just a little sharpening, and off to the show...

    One for a customer

Here is one I just finished up for a customer. Somehow this knife got the name Neo-Kukhri. I just call it a Neo now. It is 1095 forged, with linen micarta bolsters along with stabilized maple burl handle material. I think he will like it.. I hope so.

    Got my cards today

Got my knife dogs cards today. I really like them, with the big dog staring at the little dog. They will be on my table at the Ohio Classic this October. Thanks, Tracy

    Knife names

I have never been a big one for naming knives. I have named a few of them, but it is hard. I try to avoid names like "the blood-letter", and "skull slicer", but how many names can you come up with for a basic hunter? I normally just describe the knife when listing it for sale, but I have...

    Recent stuff

Here are some pics of my most recent stuff. Still getting used to this new forum. All are 1095 and have hamons. Sometimes the lighting is not the best.

    Books on scroll work

I have been trying to do decent scrollwork/carving on my leather. Any know of decent books on the subject? Maybe some how to's. I have also seen something called craftaids that help lay out a guideline for tooling. Anyone know of any that have the fancy scroll?

    even dye application

I guess the title really says it. I have been using fiebings alcohol based leather dyes. I tried the eco-flo, but the dye did not seem to want to stick, which is too bad, because in a fit of dumbness, I bought several small bottles. I have been using the little wool daubers, but they dye...
