    Competition Throwers

Dan its a couple of things, first it's a style point, I'm trying to keep as much of the Bowie style to the thrower as possible, so you get the wide section where the false blade meets the clip. Second it provides an index point when throwing by the blade for your index finger. In competition we...

Knife #5, Please don't hurt yourselves laughing.

Joe I think your design has a cool individual flair, it is clearly yours. you might look into learning the buffer to put a finish to it and take out some of the work marks on it. you have to get the fifth one done before you can go to the sixth, so keep moving forward. I think you show some...

    My first forged blade

Bruce, based on what I know about the split rim, it is a high carbon spring steel. It seems to have finished pretty well, but my ignorance is evident here. I tried to find out the content of the steel but after a couple of hours down the rabbit hole I gave up and went to the shop. I will...

fighters vs. tacticals, what can you teach me?

What a great question and some thoughtful answers. I have done some pretty extensive research on the Bowie, and have some very good resources that I would be happy to pass along if anyone is interested.

    My first forged blade

here it is after heat treat, temper and clean up grind. I let the drill bit drift on the 304 bolsters as you can see, and had to put it down for a few days and work on other knives, but I will fix it and move forward with the ivory paper micarta scales and the 304 bolsters. I know it looks like...

    My first forged blade

I got a great deal on a forced air induction forge and a 200 lb anvil, some hardy tools and tongs. I have been keeping a ring off an old split rim for just such an occasion, and on Sunday I hammered out my first blade. I will start my ruff grind later today, and post more pics as this one...

    Bowie Thrower

Thanks for the input Frank. I make the style throwers you describe as well although they are a Bowie profile as well. Take a look. If a thrower is standing at the right distance from the target and throws consistently, the knife will almost never hit handle first. We throw 1/2 spin from about 8...

    Bowie Thrower

I'm not completely happy with it, but it is done. Stock removal from 1/4" 0-1 precision ground. Its 16" and about 35 ounces with a brass guard and elk scales. This knife was made to throw and compete, and possibly use a boat anchor, lol -sd IKTHOF #222

    2013 Knife Making Progress

Steven, one question. Do you wear glasses? I have noticed that my eyeglasses(old fart) no line bifocals distort the lines when I am grinding just enough to throw me off square. Once I figured it out, things went alot better. Just a shot in the dark. Awesome looking shop, BTW. I have the same...
