    Question about 3ph motor (pictures!)

I was looking to save some money and come up with an economical way to be able to grind, but that VFD is cheap enough that it doesn't sense to go the phase converter route. Thanks Ken, I think I'll shoot for one of those and the $40 1hp 3ph motor. If I pick up one of the 9" disks for around...

    Question about 3ph motor (pictures!)

12345678910, that's what I was thinking. I'm not an electrician so I wasn't positive what the input needed to be and thought I should ask just to be certain. Heck, most of the used 3ph motors I find are cheap, even the 220v models, because most people don't know what to do with them. I also...

    Question about 3ph motor (pictures!)

Tracy, it looks to be an all in one unit. I would think the one power source would run it all. I take it that the phase converter that I linked will not work with this motor? If it hasn't been sold, I can get the motor with the VFD for $35. Gavin

    3ph motor question (with pics!)

Hmm, I tried to submit a thread a second ago and it didn't post. I'll try it again. I have the possible opportunity to purchase a 1hp 3ph motor that was used on a printing and graphics machine. It has an integrated variable speed controller. I, of course, don't have 3ph at my home but was...

    First "build" of sorts.

Thanks guys! George, I thought about rounding the edges, my buddy and I did the same knife at the same time together as a project and he rounded his. I don't know, I just preferred the harder edges in my hand. I have small hands and the sharper angles kind of sit in the groves of my fingers...

    Question about 3ph motor (pictures!)

Hey guys, I am obviously not an electrical engineer so I thought I'd bring this question to you guys to see if it's even worth pursuing. I have an opportunity to buy a 1hp 3ph motor with what appears to be a built in VFD. It was used on a printing and graphics machine. Looks like it would...

    First "build" of sorts.

I'm already hooked, and liquidating all sorts of things I've been meaning to get rid of to raise funds for a belt grinder. Already have a HF 1x30, drill press and various other tools. And yes, it was a big pile, but we dug for a while to find the right planks. I have quite a bit left. The...

I am quite familiar with the wisdom of the interwebs! That's why I figured a place like this would be a good idea. And yes, this hobby/art form/addiction is fun. Thanks for the welcome!

    First "build" of sorts.

As I stated in my introduction post, I'm completely new to this. A buddy of mine and myself have decided to venture into this together as we've wanted to learn this skill/art for a long time. We picked up a couple of small skinner kits from knifekits.com to practice a bit on handles. Here's...

Hey guys, just figured I'd check in and introduce myself. I'm from the Kansas City area and have been lurking for quite some time and finally decided not long ago to join the forum. I've had a desire to learn knife making for a long time, but no idea how to get started. The internet sure...
