I agree Fred, since we last spoke our currency has dropped from R10 to the $ to R15 due to our president shuffling his cabinet and having two finance ministers in the space of a week.
Should have bought one sooner. Would have saved two scrapped blades and a couple hundred rand in exchanges

I have spotted one of these on Fakebook and am keen to try this out.
I have a couple extra spanners ranging from Gedore to hardware store specials.
How do I test the spanner to see if the metal is worth working on and secondly, to get the blade would it be better to forge it...

Sat tonight working out my taxes for the past year and it looks like I will be getting some cash back.
After making adult decisions I have a portion I would like to put into getting myself into Knife making.
As a novice in a small town I don't have anybody to go visit or a shop to chat it...
I have a 1x30, ground 2 blades and i wish I had bought a better machine.
The motor whines from time to time and is not strong enough.
I can't get 1/3rd of what i paid for it.
I reread all your posts and I don't have an iron ore mine so I ordered two blanks.
My length of n690 will come in handy for my own designs later on.
Knife makers are a very friendly bunch. I started with an email to my favourite knife maker I'm south africa asking for help sourcing quality...
Good reply. I can barely lift my arms today from hacksawing out a blank and I'm only halfway there.
I think I might try a blank and see where the enjoyment lies as it seems it's a personal journey
A person I've recently met buys knife blanks from a trusted supplier, grinds them treats and sells the knives.
I'm very new so I'm learning the processes involved which is spending a heap of time hacksawing blanks out.
How do fellow knife makers view people buying pre cut blanks?
Our friend did exactly the same but after the war was number two most wanted in Rhodesia so in post war Rhodesia he is not welcome back.

A friend of ours was a selous scout and later fought in the Bush war in a rhodesian reg.
