Tong Sizing

I am new to knife making and am working on collecting supplies to begin. I am interested in buying the combo blade tongs from Blacksmith Depot but I am confused on the sizes and what I need etc. Example, the 3/4" combo tongs, does this mean the width of the blade,. If so, it would handle 3/4" wide material. If I am incorrect maybe someone can clarify this for me.

All of those combo tongs are sized to the maximum thickness of material they will accommodate. The 3/4" means they will grip up to 3/4" thick material.

For Bladesmithing, I far prefer the "Z-jaw" tongs...... they hold the given stock far more securely. I own/use the 1", 1 1/4", and 1 1/2" versions.

I can't vouche for this guy but his th ings are all $37. I watched a couple videos on his tongs and they look very nice! I too have to pick up a couple pair for my next step in forging! There are just so many!!
