Finally we've had a break in the extreme cold weather!! I made my way down to the basement to work on a couple that i had. One of them had a possible problem. The Bowie that I ground; I cut the tang square to the blade instead of tapering it like I should of. The concern was pointed out by Dennis Morland that the squaed off tang might cause a stress point after heat treat and could crack! How to fix this?? I clayed the blade with furnace cement. It worked no tings in the quench. Still need to clean it up but it looks good. Still lots of problems with this one. But I learned a lot and the next one will be better!! Also worked on another little hunter. This one is going to have a couple firsts for me, homemade Mosaic pin, and a convex cutting edge. Was a good night!! Nice to be back making useful things!!
