How is everybody doing? I am very glad to be here and have been reading for a few weeks now. I wanted to thank all of you for the wonderful posts you have kindly created. I have learned more here than most books have to offer.

I have been researching knife making for a few months now and have slowly been acquiring the essential beginner tools to start. I have finally gotten started, thanks to a lot of you. I have been working on two camping style knives using a cheap 'ol Craftsman 4"x36" belt sander, hacksaw, files, sandpaper, and good old fashioned elbow grease. I have to say, it has got to be one of the most rewarding things one could become obsessed with.

Anyway, it's great to be here and finally posting. Looking forward to getting to know some of you!

Here are my first two in progress... 1/8" O1 steel

The bottom one is the second knife I worked on and still need to do some profiling to get a better shape. Thinking about taking some of the belly off. I worked on it last night until I couldn't see anymore (need to get some lights set-up). Thanks for looking!

Looks good Steven! Can't wait to see some more pictures. What are you going to use for handle material?

Thanks man. I am going to use Arizona Ironwood Burl. I am thinking about putting front and rear bolsters on the first one.

Here is my work in progress thread I created last night if you are interested.

Welcome to Knife dogs . nice looking blades ... From Missouri maker It was between 101 and 109 for over thirty days and no rain for 2 months . almost all vegatation died and lot of creeks , lakes , and springs just dried up and all the fish died ....... Brutal it was, felt like I was in west texas .....

Thanks for the welcome bubba-san! Actually, this year is heaven compared to last year, even though we are in the 100's everyday. We were burning and blistering all over Texas for quite a while. Hope the weather will get better for you man. I feel your pain.
