Monkeypod

Aloha,

I've got a line on some free monkeypod to try for handle material. Anybody worked with it before? Do you recommend stabilizing?

It may be wet, if so it might be best to cut out select oversized blocks and forget about it for a couple years. If you really like it, then I think it's a good idea to stabilize. On a small piece, the size of a knife handle, it may not look very interesting. I'd think an oil finish would be good on a 'just trying it out' handle. It shows up a lot as bowl stock, that usually doesn't have any special finish on them.

Trim it up for best look, and maybe don't worry about maximum yield, Craig
