Making a 1" grinding wheel out of a 2" one.

If you want to grind a cutting edge on the inside of a curve, a 2" belt can sometimes be too wide. Just take some 1" masking tape and place it on the center of the wheel in say 15 layers or so. You want enough height so you can grind to the depth you need for your blade. As to the belts, if you cut them at center where the join is they most often will tear even around the whole belt giving you the size for that 1" new wheel. Frank

Frank, I'm a bit slow, but for some reason I was thinking you meant a 1" diameter wheel. Re-reading I think you're talking about a using a 1" wide belt on a 2" wide wheel by wrapping masking tape without regard to diameter? Is this correct?

Thanks for the TIP Frank! I "tried" to grind one of those Karambut knives and it kept coming out with a flat spot in the center. I figured I needed a narrower wheel.

WOW!!! That's a BIG wheel!!! I think you wrote 10'? just had to pick on you Frank {grinning}
