I forgot which steel I used.

Ok I have D2 steel I've made knives out of, however I'm not sure if it's just D2 or CPM-D2. I need to heat treat but I'm not sure how. Any suggestions??

I have been using 1870 for 30 minutes on both. I cryo then double temper at 400.

D2 Tool Steel

Carbon-1.50-1.55 Chromium-11.5-12.0 Manganese-0.30-0.50 Molybdenum-0.75-0.90 Silicon-0.25-0.40 Vanadium-0.80-0.95 D2 is an air hardening tool steel. The chromium content makes it "almost" stainless. It can be quenched in still air but most knifemakers quench between two 1" thick...

  The D2 knives that cut the longest in rope may not always cut the best in other materials. Quantity of cut and quality of cut are usually, but not always, coincidental. The only way to find out is to cut with your knife and test its capabilities.​
