Drive belt/motor configuration

I am in the process of upgrading my motor for my KMG. Previously I have had the grinder and the motor bolted to the bench in a way that keeps the belt tight. This way has worked for me but I would like to know if mounting the motor to a hinged plate would be better? I was thinking that the hinged mounting plate would move a little if the belt expands or stretches but may cause bearing damage if the motor is too heavy?

Either method should have about the same belt tension. If the motor is heavy you can design the hinge geometry too take weight off the belt.

I have used a hinged plate for many years and have yet to see a problem.
