ceracote question

Should you ceracote a knife prior to handle scales, and will epoxy stick to ceracote if you do? Can you rough up ceracote with sand paper? I've never used the stuff. Thanks.

I've used the stuff before. My process is profile and shape handles using button head torx and connectors. Then prep and coat the blade. Then epoxy the scales to the blade using the button head torx and connectors, while wiping any excess epoxy off with acetone. You can use straight pin stock or corby bolts instead but you'll have to shape the handle after the glue up which means tape and patience are your friends. I've never roughed up any coated blade under the scales with sandpaper and I haven't had any issues in use but again I use mechanical fasteners. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I use Corby bolts as a mechanical fastener. I may mod a set to go flush with the scales so I can still shape them. Good info.
