I found an old Camillus combat style blade that was apparently a factory reject - wavey grind line. The blade was annealed, so I reground to get a nice dagger, but I have no idea of the type of steel it is. I got a big shower of bright yellow/white sparks when grinding - Stainless?? Anybody have any ideas re heat treat?

Thanks

Don't hold me to this but.....
I would treat it as 1095 only because of the many articles and reference material I've read on military knives(35+ yrs). 1095 seems to have been extensively used by the varied manufacturers going back to the Korean era on issue knives. To double check this you might go to Bernard Levine's forum or read his reference material. There's a chance I'm wrong but it's a starting point. It also depends on what old means to you, after the early 80's it could be a mystery steel due to availability and cost.
