    A Different Blade Finish

Been wanting to try something new with blade finishes and I've seen some other makers putting an etched finish on blades so I thought I'd give it a try. Decided to take the flats back down to bright just to be a little different. I kinda like the look of it and will try to improve the...

    Frame/Liner Lock 2 Blader

I attempted to make one of these several years ago but failed to get it done...saw a squirrel and got redirected I guess. Then after seeing one of Frank Niro's two bladed knives recently I got interested again and decided to give it another shot. Started over with the design and decided to...

    Latest Trapper

Here's the latest trapper to come off the bench. It's the fourth of this pattern that I've squeezed out of the chute. Blade and backsprings are CPM-154, bolsters and liners are 410 stainless, and the covers are Desert Ironwood Burl. I know screw together construction is taboo in some circles...

    Heat Colored Ti

A customer ordered a knife with timascus on one side of the frame and I thought that was a good opportunity to learn how to color ti with a torch. It was a good learning experience and I liked the look of it so I did a little coloring on a titanium frame slipjoint as well. Here's a couple...

    First Lockback

Had a great time over the last few days with a visitor in my shop. His name is Leon Hall and he's a very accomplished knife maker who is now retired. He was nice enough to help me with my first lockback. With his guidance I was able to avoid many mistakes and ended up with a workable knife...

    Dual Detent Friction Folder

Been wanting to try this for awhile and finally got it done. It's a friction folder with dual detent springs-one in each half of the titanium frame. The springs are cut out of the interior of the liners so there are no gaps around the perimeter. There's a nice "click" when the blade contacts...

Ebony and Ivory - A Couple of Swaybacks

Still workin on my slipjoint abilities and had to try my hand at some more difficult to work handle materials. Held my breath the whole time, but got them together without splitting or cracking. Can't believe it...my luck usually runs the other way. Absolute proof that a blind hog can find an...

    Another Slipjoint Build

First off let me say that I'm still very much a novice when it comes to making slipjoints, so keep that in mind if you choose to take a look. This isn't really intended to be a tutorial per say...just wanted to document this build to have something to add to my website to give customers and...

    Big Slipjoint Work Knife

I've spent the last couple months acquiring and setting up some new equipment in the hopes of improving my slipjoints. I now have a milling machine and horizontal grinder. This is the first knife I've made using the new stuff. It's not perfect, but I think it's quite an improvement over those...
