TAP Controller for Heat Treat Oven or Kiln

As the title says, TAP controller for sale The touch screen is not very sensitive. It often takes 2 or 3 touches for it to register. I talked to SDS Industries about this and they indicated that this is a known issue with this generation. That said, it works fine. I should note that this came...

You turn it over and the stopper lets go What a mess Got all over my brand new Mitutoyo calipers Turns out acetone will damage the plastic on the calipers UGH!! On the plus side, I remembered some 4 letter words that I haven't used in a long time

I'm seriously considering giving up knife making

I rarely get shop time now that the weather has broken. I'm lucky to get a few hours once a week because I work 60 - 70 hrs/week. So this weekend I had 3 days off and really wanted to hit knives hard. Things did not go as planned. I spent all my time making and then fixing one mistake after...

    New(ish) tool - Tapmatic

I've been tapping holes for well over 25 years and I'll admit that I'm pretty darned good at it. However breaking a tap happens and if you've ever broken one you know what a colossal PAIN getting it out can be. Well I broke a 2-56 last week and finally decided to pull this tapmatic out and see...

    Another lesson learned

Ugh! While shaping a handle I ground through the top of a corby bolt and into the threads. I obviously didn't sink it enough. Crap. Now I've got to cut the scales off and redo everything. You better believe I'll be double and triple checking from now on. And here's the funny thing...

    Finished this one up today

This is a different shape than I usually make. Figured I try it out. I did a thumb ramp and some aggressive jimping on this one. The rear of the handle has also been redesigned. I canted the pocket clip a bit to try and get a different look in the pocket. Not sure I like it, I may make a...

    Sometimes I amaze myself

With my stupidity Today I was hand sanding a blade and I was on the final grit I have a bar of brass and a piece of leather that I use as a backer for the sandpaper I get a new strip of sandpaper but can't find my brass bar. So I grabbed a file that was sitting next to my vice figuring, hey...

    BrandantR's KITH

I received BrandantR's KITH knife last week and I've spent a few days getting to know it. This, my friends, is a true gentleman's folder. Perfect for a watch pocket or to carry with a suit. I make tactical folders that are big and a bit imposing. This is on the other end of the scale...

    Long overdue upgrade

I added a rubber layer to my disk grinder. I got it from the Boss at least a year ago, maybe 2, but I never got around to putting it on. Now that I have it on I wonder why the heck I waited so long! So much better. Way smoother. This is a cheap and fast upgrade that I highly recommend.

    Motor City Mike's KITH WIP

I figured I'd get started, December isn't that far away This is where it all starts. I taught myself enough CAD to design it in Draftsight Working on the handle here. I hide the layers I don't need and make a bunch of copies. No sense wasting an entire sheet of paper for just one. I...

The hardest about knifemaking might be...

Throwing away old belts!! Today I made a rack to hold all my belts (much better than the pile I was keeping them in :)). While sorting through them and hanging them up I found more than a dozen belts that were completely used up. I mean junk. There were a couple from my very first belt order...

    Odd requests

I have yet to make a knife sale but I've had a few people sniffing around. Yesterday I guy work with asked me to make him a knife. Ok. Cool. Then he says he wants me to put Browning on the knife instead of of my makers mark. What?? Why?? He said so people will know it's made in America...

    A hunter I recently finished

I dashed this one off in a scant 3 1/2 months...lol. I wish I had more time in the shop and I wish I could work faster. Not sure who I'll give this to. The handle is a bit small so maybe I'll give it to my niece, she's 4'10" S35vn full tang Mircarta handles Red liners Thanks for looking

How to eliminate "J" hooks from final sanding?

Ugh! Hand sanding. Looks great but what a colossal pain! I usually take my knives down to 600 and I get good results with one exception. I get tiny "J" hooks where I initially press the sandpaper onto the blade for the final finish. The rest looks great with nice smooth parallel lines down...

    Kydex sheaths...Where to start??

In all honesty I have no desire to make sheaths but I'd like to include them with my knives. I really do not want to deal with leather work. I'd rather do kydex. Seems like it'd be a little easier. Besides, I've always liked kydex with knives I bought from other makers. So I'm looking to get...

One for my Eagle Scout nephew

This is also my first completed fixed blade. I've started many but either screwed them up somewhere along the way or stalled out at one stage or another. This is for my nephew. He made Eagle Scout a few months ago and his Court of Honor Ceremony is next month. So I made this to commemorate...

When do you consider yourself a knifemaker?

My wife and I ran into some old friends that we haven't seen in many years. While catching up, my wife mentioned that I'm a knifemaker now. I quickly corrected her and said something along the lines of, Well I've made a few knives but I'm not really a "knifemaker". I even made the air...

    How to blue a blade?

I've got someone that is interested in ordering a knife with a "blued" blade but I have no idea how it's done. Does anyone have an experience doing this? Is it something I can do myself or does it need to be sent out? If I can do it myself how difficult is it? Are there a lot different...
